Process: Colour testing
When I am called to create, I begin by painting quick small sized pieces to loosen up. Sometimes I will use a few colours, other times only one. Painting shapes, words, or using different mediums. I find this helpful as I can begin to understand the relationship between colours, and how they convey my present state. My process of starting an artwork is then guided by notes scrawled in moleskins, or an image - real or imagined.
As a creative, simply beginning can often be clouded with thoughts of doubt. Often we try things for the first time and preconceive the outcome, good or bad. Teaching myself not to be precious and use intuition has been a key factor in finding my style. I began to practice art as a means of expression and emotion, rather than following what is deemed to be art.
