Here and Now: A Photo Journal
My space to create and perform daily rituals have been such a luxury, it has given me that further push I needed to pursue art. Naturally, I wanted to create a photo journal and share some insight into where I am now - as a person and artist.
I have been on an ongoing journey for the last 5 years for personal fulfilment, which has seen me move 3 times in 5 years. In the back of my mind, I tell myself that I won't be moving again for a while... I hope. I reassure myself that my open-mindedness has created the life I have dreamt of, so if that means moving again - Neka Bude (translates to ‘so be it’ in Croatian). All the decisions, the people I have met, milestones and experiences I have shared have all furthered my sense of self.
Originally from WA, I have resided in New Zealand, Adelaide and presently in sunny Queensland where I have attained my passion.
Each day I start my morning by reading over breakfast, followed by a short walk to the beach. The path at 102 mysteriously winds through the bush until you are faced with a diamond of trees that frames the ocean. I stop to look through every time, my camera roll filled with a different scene each time.
My studio is clean, some of the time. I stick my intentions on the wall to guide me. Connections, feelings, observations, symbols, relationship with the ocean, connection without sound, intuition, feel and fun: a formula for my expression each day. Next to this, is a picture of my sister and I dated 1997. A trip to Europe with my family that sticks in my memory some 23 years later.
I'm surrounded by a collection of books to inspire me, often sprawled on the floor - some covered in paint.
Blues, not Blues is painted on an easel to remind me that my practice can heal a crowded mind. Painting and writing have been a steady form of personal expression for seemingly forever.
