Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2020

This week, I entered my work titled Blues Not Blues into the Sunshine Coast Art Prize at the Caloundra Regional Gallery. I'm humbled by the experience and have created my largest work to date!

Artist Statement:

I paint textured abstract works with acrylic. I’m guided by intuition and the wondrous ever-present magic of the ocean.

Layered strokes, hidden words, intuitive movement and the treatment of blue offers an intrigue of direct expression. Marks are painted over or revealed again to accentuate my expressive and symbolic healing.

Blues Not Blues is influenced by images real or imagined—dreams, nature and adventures meaningful to me. Referencing familiarity, calmness and the restorative elements of the sea, Blues Not Blues allures the viewer to reflect deeply within the gestural strokes, the abundance of blue and flashes of colour.
